The role of govermnent should insure the safety of its citizens . Once again , the Bush Adminstration has come down the on the side of big business . Instead of protecting the public , the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Adminstration has established weak rules for electronic on-board recorders (EOBR). All commerical truck drivers have limits on the hours they can drive . The purpose of the hours-of-service rules is to protect the truck drivers and the general public from driver fatique . In Tennessee , truck drivers have the highest death rate of any occupation . EOBRs can detect and deter violations of the hours-of-service rules . Instead of ordering all commerical trucks to have them installed , only those trucking companies that have been caught violating the rules will be required to have these recorders installed . It is common place in the trucking industry to keep false logs books . In many cases that I see , logbooks are always falsified . Your safety on the roadways have been compromised by failing to require these devices be installed on all tractor trailer trucks . This is another reason that one should consult with an attorney quickly when you have been involved in an accident with these big trucks .
