This is a follow up post on the recent court ruling on hours- of- service for tractor trailer trucks . I wrote on the Federal Court overturning the the rule increasing the hours that a driver can drive at one time . The Court found fault on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Adminstration ‘s (FMCSA) model for failing to deal with the problem of the added fatique on drivers as a result of the change of the rules . Congress ordered FMCSA to make safety its highest priority and to revise the hours-of-service rules to decrease truck crashes . Each year more than 5000 people are killed and more than 110,000 are injured in big truck crashes . Truck driver fatique is a major factor in these severe and deadly crashes .
