Today, the circus came to Nashville. The circus will be here for approximately six months. The circus to which I am referring is also known as the Tennessee State Legislature. The question is not how many laws they will pass but how many of the representatives will get into trouble while it is in session. The Republican agenda is clearly set by Rep. Jason Mumpower. First, Mr. Mumpower proposes limits on medical malpractice awards even when there is no proof that it escalates health care costs. I challenge him to point to one unjust jury award in the Tennessee Court system. I have the utmost faith that the Tennesse jurors use good common sense when hearing these cases. Why prevent citizens from going to the court house?

Secondly, Mr. Mumpower proposes tougher D.U.I. laws. Why do we have such harsh laws that prevent an individual from suing the bar that over served one of its customers and allowed that customer to leave while intoxicated? The answer is powerful lobbyists. This session, keep track of your state representative and make sure he or she is working for you.
