Summer is the time to hit the lakes and resevoirs in Utah for boating fun. For those who are not versed in local boating safety, adequate training is critical. To achieve this goal, Utah State Parks, a division of the Utah Department of Natural Resources, offers a comprehensive on-line boating safety course.
The course, titled "BOAT ED," is the state’s official course designed to educate boaters on the Utah boater education law and to confer Utah boating safety education certificates on those who successfully complete the course. One must be at least 16 years old to take the boating safety certification test, but Utah State Parks offer a course in personal watercraft safety for those aged 12 to 17 – check their website for details.
And if you are interested in boat safety certification for states other than Utah, BOAT ED offers courses in 42 states including:
Finally, BOAT ED touts one final advantage to completing their certification courses; reduced rates on insurance for your watercraft. Simply provide your certification paperwork to your insurance agent and ask for the discount.
